Kanakavali as we know it today is a modern creation of the late 19th century; born from pan-Tagol movements and reformist kings. The Confederation was formed in 1964, by seven large kingdoms in the region. Originally, Kanakavali was a region known by the same name, an exonym given by Aryadeshi merchants. The region comprised of (like majority of South Yoju) a large number of Kanakavalian micro-states.
In the south, states were heavily influenced by the nearby Lakhani Dynasty, with states in the region swearing fealty to the dynasty from the 11th to ate 16th century. This was eventually disrupted and destroyed by the Warring Princes period, which lead to inconsistent contact between the dynasty and border states. Without this contact, and with the fall of the Lakhani dynasty, states eventually cut contact with successor states despite reforms to the Tularajya system. In the north, due to the flat, fertile, geography of the region, states tended be larger in size, and thus is where the main unifying forces of the country originate. Throughout the north, states were heavily influenced by the Seogwanhese Caliphate and Aryadeshi peoples. This comes from a long period of trade, mostly during the 9th to 15th centuries. Contact to the north, wherein the richer northern states would provide goods and investment in return for suzerain over these states. This led to the spread of Buddhism and Hinduism in the region, which was poplar among local leaders, of which plenty adopted it as state religion. Despite a period of peace, the system was not sustainable, as petty fights would emerge over these puny states without proper management from competing Aryadeshi states. This would lead to the invasion of the Kingdom of Monavaksetram in the 14th century, one of the major forces in Northern Kanakavali.
Despite this, the region maintained a common language, Kanakavalian, propagated through trade, with a system known as the Vyaparika, allowing for free passage and trade among micro states with little taxation. Because of this, Kanakavalian was commonly used as the lingua franca of the region, as well as a common language for administration.
From the 17th to 18th century, series of unifying forces would conquer the region, from Gyaseran monarchs to Hindu or Sabbatarian Lamghanid vassal states. These states would be subjected to large amounts of unequal Taikiengese treaties, which lead to large land concessions on the coast, similar to those which happened a century prior in Rodasia. Across the late 18th and early 19th century, pan-Kanakalian movements swept the country, calling for the removal of foreign rule. These movements were based upon a shared heritage and linguistics, and called for a confederation of Kanakalian states, without foreign rule influencing the country. This resulted in the Lamghanid Exodus, in which the final foreign kings were expelled, and a mass deportation of Aryadeshis out of the north. From this, the first Confederation of Kanakalia formed, which was de jure a unified state, but consisted of warlords, religious conflicts, and no functional legislative body that could effectively rule. Taking advantage of the instability, Taikiengese forces conquered and formed the Ganakabali Protectorate in 1782("嘎那卡瓦利", transliteration of "Kanakavali"). This was the first time that the region was united underneath one banner, even if colonial.
This continued until the mid 20th century, where nationalist and pan-Kanakalian forces attempted to expel Taikiengese forces. This reached it's peak in 1954, with the Svarnabandra (** still getting used to toponyms, means "golden port (svarna- meaning gold, bandra being a suffix for port) Rebellion granting the region independance, as it contributed relatively little and was not worth fighting a war over. This led to the Second Confederation of Kanakalia, which was now, without the same fervor fighting against Taikieng, had many of the same issues as the original confederation. The Second Confederation was split into seven cantons, mostly along ethnic and religious borders, which operated under formerly deposed monarchs and parliamentary governments. Many became disillusioned by the idea of a unified state. The Second Confederation, despite the weak state and large local power, managed to pass some reformist legislation, that attempted to fancy itself as a modern Tagol state. This system ultimately collapsed after the system increasingly favored Northern Kanakavali Hindus and Sabbatarians, as well as the Aryadeshi minority. Large economic disparities further seperated the country, as the Congress, which mostly comprised of Northerners, refused to solve the crisis in the south through peaceful means. This caused religious conflict along the volatile borders of the different cantons. This started in the south, where the religious conflict lead to the raising of local armies, where the disorganized government could not contact the relatively sheltered communities. This resulted in the Kanakavali Civil War in 1979, when the confederate government became completely defunct after southern and Buddhist groups boycotted the National Congress.
This lasted until 1982, in which the Astasreyo Agreement established the modern Kanakavali state, which granted complete religious equality in the constitution and established a (de jure) secular state. Despite this, deep resentment continues to fester in isolated areas of the south, where conflicts continue to happen. In the modern day, Kanakavalia is a constitutional heptarchy based around a council of seven kings of the seven cantons, which also hold titles as Kanakavalian representatives of religion. It is a federal directorial republic.
